27.) Wherever Power There Is Danger And I Knew It . . .

Wherever power there is danger and I knew it
The peril’s daily, being set in the centre of the flame.
Though no fear: the thing that could be burned, gone!
Sudden as lightening Damocles’ sword falls;
Split through the middle the flaming torch passes.
Pain, creeps slowly back, and with it, on the same tide
Certainty – and in it, I see, and know my shame;
In the light, its clarity –– turned, it is my secret joy!
And I am free –– released from all deceit of it!
The more I saw my thought, the more I knew,
And I was not shadowed by any censure of me:
I was more than free! – I was set apart – and by the
Movement of the stars, free to love the falcon as the lark!
See inside their winding flight – the breathing sky!
